Created by Marble Falls local Kurt Cotter, the Fish Taco Fly is equal parts humor, craftsmanship, and a pure fish magnet.
How the Taco Fly Was Born
The whole thing started when Kurt sent a goofy felt taco photo to his friend Don Barber.
“Make me a taco fly,” he joked.
Don shot back, “With or without sauce?”
Kurt tied it on. Kurt caught a fish. Kurt posted the photo.
That perch eating a taco exploded online. Shares everywhere. Fly shops in other states asking for tacos. Strangers calling Kurt “the Taco Guy”.
Instead of letting it fade, Kurt got serious. He worked through foam thicknesses, hook sizes, colors, materials. He tested them across Hill Country creeks, on the Llano, on the coast, even on his honeymoon in Colorado.
And the verdict was simple. It wasn’t just funny. It worked.
Bass smashed it. Sunfish inhaled it. Redfish wrecked it. Turns out fish love tacos too.
The Fish Taco Fly’s New Home
When Kurt visited the WaterTied shop in Marble Falls for the first time, the fit was obvious. The Fish Taco Fly carries the same spirit WaterTied is built on: creativity, community, and getting people outside with a sense of fun.
Kurt wanted this fly to stay local and to give back. So when WaterTied became the exclusive home of the Fish Taco Fly, it was agreed that a portion of the sales would support the Ark Crisis Center through the Highland Lakes Crisis Network. Your taco catches fish and helps people in need.
